Symposium on International Education: Meeting the Needs of International, Refugee, and Newcomer Students in Alberta

The symposium is organized by the University of Alberta Faculty of Education International Office and the Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Research. Its purpose is to bring together those involved in research, practice and policy related to international education and the education of international, refugee, and newcomer students in Alberta. 

Date:  March 2, 2016

Location:  Maple Leaf Room in Lister Centre (87 Avenue & 116 Street)

Time:  Sessions 8:30 am to 4:30 pm   Reception and poster/table session 4:45 to 6:00 pm

Session Topics:   

  • Creating Supportive Educational Spaces for International, Refugee and Newcomer Students
  • Understanding the Particular Needs of International, Refugee and Newcomer Students
  • Internationalizing Curriculum and Pedagogy
  • We Are All Treaty People: The Importance of Place and Indigenous Knowledges and Experiences in International Education.

We also encourage researchers, policymakers and practitioners to showcase research posters on the topics of the symposium. Please email cgcer@ualberta.ca for more information. 

Participants may register in the symposium session or reception/poster session, or both.
